MSJ&AR

Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway

Opened fully in 1849, the MSJ&AR ran between Manchester (Oxford Road and London Road/Piccadilly) and Altrincham. Soon after openening it became jointly owned by the LNWR an the MSLR (later the GCR). At the grouping in 1923 it became a joint LNER and LMS operation.

The line was electrified in 1930, and in 1992 the Altrincham part became part of the Manchester tram network.
