Opened in 1866 to link Doncaster with Wakefield, the West Riding & Grimsby Railway was a joint Great Northern Railway and Great Eastern Railway enterprise. It is best known for the ’99 arches’ viaduct that form the Southern approach to Wakefield Westgate station.
